Join Virginia Community Voice for training on equitable community engagement and decision-making...now in a virtual setting!

About this Event

Equitable Community Engagement & Decision-Making

In this moment, Virginia Community Voice encourages organizations to also reevaluate how they engage marginalized communities.

When the people most affected by public health crises, a struggling economy, and racial injustice are included in decision making about the future of our communities it leads to better outcomes. This means listening to and centering black, brown, and indigenous people of color and others whose voices have been marginalized.

Virginia Community Voice offers leaders a framework for how to equitably make decisions and engage people of color and other marginalized groups. Using the Community Voice Blueprint, organizations can learn how to maximize impact and minimize harm when engaging communities directly impacted by your programs, policies, and practices.

In this two-hour virtual training, participants will:

  • Learn about the four stages of the Community Voice model of engagement: Listen, Connect, Craft, and Reflect

  • Reflect on their own experiences making decisions about and engaging people in historically marginalized communities

  • Consider the difference between intent vs. impact in our volunteerism, research, investments, or programming

  • Learn strategies for maximizing impact and minimizing harm in decision-making and engagement
