THE COMMUNITY POWER TOOLKIT (CPT)

This training package includes three action-oriented trainings for inclusive community organizing.

The three training sessions offered in this toolkit can be taken individually or bundled

We strongly recommend taking our EQUITABLE ENGAGEMENT ESSENTIALS BUNDLE (EEE) to gain foundational knowledge that will be built on in this toolkit.

  1. Equity In Action: Practical Strategies for Community Engagement (6 hours)

  2. Community Power: Creating an Equitable Development Scorecard (2 hours)

  3. Equitably Engaging the Latinx Community (2 hours)

This is the training package your organization has been waiting for! Informed by more than 15 years of direct community organizing experience, VACV staff has put these training sessions together so institutions can acquire actionable and effective tools to share power with historically marginalized communities. These sessions provide real-world examples of on-the-ground organizing to work in the community you’re in.  In the first training, you’ll learn how to do engagement work, from one-to-ones to setting up community-led working groups. In the second training, you’ll learn how to organize around a specific issue through the lens of creating an Equitable Development Scorecard, a tool designed by neighbors to hold developers accountable to the community’s wants and needs. In the third training, you’ll learn what it really takes to engage with neighbors different from yourself, and set up inclusive spaces.

In addition, these training sessions will be customized to the organization’s vision for inclusion. The strategies and principles shared throughout these sessions can be translated to organizing your neighbors around topics that matter to their communities

      • How we used our Community Voice Process to engage with neighbors to create the scorecard

      • Provide examples of development categories to be scored

      • Provide strategies on how to bring neighbors together so the community can build its own Scorecard.

      • Provide tools and context on best practices to center the Latinx community and to engage them in a sustainable way
