Purpose: To promote healthier and safer communities through the creation and protection of garden and green spaces

  • Address food injustice and promote community access to healthy food and environmental advocacy

  • Maintain, Create, and expand community gardens

  • Tree planting & maintenance

  • Rainwater harvesting

  • Composting

  • Community clean up days

  • Garden Steward program to ensure consistent maintenance of local gardens and promote leadership and economic development opportunities.

SOUTHSIDE GARDENS

The greening group has three gardens on the Southside of Richmond that they grow and maintain. Oak Grove Garden, Hickory Hill Garden and Davee Garden. Find them on the map here.

2025 GREENING WORKING GROUP GOALS

  • Strengthen relationship with ARCA and begin plans to more intentionally support Broad Rock Creek Park

  • Partner with Parks and Recreation to design and create a community composting program.

  • Install interpretive signage at the Oak Grove Garden, linking the project to climate resilience
