Communications coordinator

Rupa is the Communications Coordinator at Virginia Community Voice, where she identifies and shares VACV’s impact effectively and equitably. Connecting people, using her creativity to bring things to life and being passionate about her work are vital to her.

Working in the fair trade sector and has shown her the intersections that exist between fair trade and nonprofit engagement. They both are just one way of correcting colonial practices, their narratives are rooted in a reality of harm, and that co-creating solutions and centering voices of the most impacted is vital. Engaging in these sectors with the equitable and community-centered lens that VACV’s does is what brought her onto the team + she LOVES the Blueprint model!

Rupa lives a purpose driven life while voraciously reading her way through learning and unlearning lessons to create change. She’s advocated for positive changes in the environment, in personal buying habits and in overlooked populations. She shows up for her community and demands authenticity while providing space for hard dialogues. As a mother of three and immigrant (from India), she raises her kids to be compassionate, globally minded humans who understand their role in multiple identities.
